  • Sky is the limit: Let FileMaker take you to the cloud with superior web service integration

    -

Forget all about what you could and couldn’t do with web service access from FileMaker without plug-ins: Now you can do (almost) it all! The foundation for all the magic is the cURL function (reads “see URL” – pronounced “curl”) used throughout the internet. cURL celebrates its 20th anniversary this year by gaining almost full exposure in FileMaker ScriptMaker.
We celebrate the anniversary by looking at the amazing portfolio of new web service functions in FileMaker 16 (also the non-cURL-related ones).

Throughout the presentation we will look at actual web services and leverage FileMaker 16 functionality to access them. Send me suggestions for web services you would like to access at ajv@zordesign.dk and your request may turn up as an example in the presentation!

    -

  • 2 Factor authentication in FileMaker

    -

In this session we will discuss the topic of Two Factor Authentication in FileMaker.

In times where we read about hacker attacks and other security breaches in the news regularly, organisations rightfully and increasingly demand software solutions with a high level of security, including login procedures that do not rely on username and password alone. What option do we have to do so in our FileMaker solutions?
We will talk about the new possibilities in FileMaker 16 to use the authorization framework OAuth and the pros and cons of using the different identity providers available. Furthermore we will demonstrate a technique we have been experimenting with to manage Two Factor Authentication more independently and without the use of a third-party provider. We would love to hear your brutally honest thoughts on that.

  • EU law regarding personal information

    -

From may 2018, the EU law regarding personal protection (the European Union\\\'s General Data Protection Regulation - GDPR) will be effective. The EU law has a great impact on developers and hosts, this goes both for big companies and for self employed people.
Many professionals are not aware of the impact the EU law will have on their own business and that of their clients. If you are not prepared for this, you are in for a big surprise.
This sounds like a heavy and boring topic and you might think “Is this concerning me?”. It IS, and it will! You can take this presentation as a kickstart to get on top of the material, so you’ll be able to help your clients through the transition.
This presentation will have an option for an extended Q&A.

  • Pause

    -

  • MirrorSync – FileMaker Servers, AWS and Load balancing

    -

AWS deployment, along with how MirrorSync can be used with multiple FileMaker Servers clustered on AWS with load balancing between them.

The first half of the session will be a fast-paced tutorial on deploying FileMaker Server using Amazon Web Services (AWS). Many specific details will be touched on, such as ideal volume partitioning, elastic IP addresses, and selecting the right type of EC2 instance.
The second half of the session will consist of a load balancing demonstration: Multiple FileMaker Servers will be deployed using AWS and Elastic Load Balancing (ELB), with MirrorSync configured to keep the two servers in sync. This will demonstrate the increased load that can be handled.

    -

Get inspiration from some projects that you normally don´t think you would do in FileMaker. In this session you will see some of the problems that you can overcome with creative thinking when working with FileMaker.

You will be taking for a journey from my first project I developed in FileMaker (version 2) to some of the most resent works.

For example we will show FileMaker in different roles from helping people with dyslexia to controlling Agv´s (Automate Guided Vehicles)

  • Hosting your FileMaker custom apps

    -

We will look into the options for hosting your FileMaker custom apps with FileMaker Cloud and FileMaker Server.

This will be a Hands-on session about server. You will learn how to install and deploy FileMaker server using best practise. We will also look at the technologies around the server, such as SSL, NAT, DNS and more.

After this session you will be able to setup a FileMaker server or FileMaker Cloud to host your custom FileMaker apps.

  • The use of FileMaker 16, extended insert of URL with JSON functions

    -

In this session, we will be looking at ways to use FileMaker 16’s extended insert from url and new JSON functions.

I’ll be showing you how to extend FileMakers ecosystems with the use of cURL. You will learn how to access external APIs using InsertFromURL and cURL parameters.

I will show you how to take care of the result with the new powerful JSON functions.

  • Automation with FileMaker

    -

Take your solution to the next level by utilizing the real strength of the FileMaker Platform: Server 16. Automate and offload procedures from the user/client to the server and, perhaps, to robots. Automation is, of course, relevant for the desktop user, but it is crucial for the iOS user with FileMaker Go and WebDirect cloud users. It is not only essential for automation of routines initiated by the user, but also for the generation of complex reports that could burden the system and for inter-solution integration without pressing the performance of the solution and without keeping the user waiting.

  • FileMaker on the Edge

    -

FileMaker has introduced several new features during the recent new versions that makes it possible for us as developers to make some very interesting solutions.

In this session, we will look at two different features:
    • The new App SDK and the possibilities the use of plugins gives us. FileMaker introduced a new feature in FileMaker 16 that makes it possible to use plugins in FileMaker Apps, though not in Go. We will look into this feature and touch on some of the plugins that are available already.

    • Editing Rich Text and drawings in FileMaker. By combining some of the newer and older features in FileMaker, we can edit Rich Text and drawings inline in FileMaker and store the result in FileMaker fields. This session will show the possibilities and the techniques used to accomplish this.

  • Pause

    -

  • ExecuteSQL and Custom Functions: a winning team

    -

ExecuteSQL has been with us since FileMaker 12, but are you really using it to the max?
We will start by prying a real error description out of FileMaker for the SQL statements instead of that dreaded “?” Then we create custom functions to make SQL statements resilient to field and table name changes and avoid name clashes with unexpected reserved names. Finally we are ready for some serious ExecuteSQL work!
We will look at various applications of ExecuteSQL in unexpected places: Custom functions that access your data free of context to encapsulate business logic (why not calculate a price dynamically in a custom function using queries to item and price tables on the fly?) Use simple ExecuteSQL statements when you need auto-enter options instead of cluttering the graph? Or how about applying undocumented ExecuteSQL functionality to query the database schema and help you keep an eye on your data structures to target unused fields for deletion and help you ensuring that data integrity is preserved when migrating data? A little prior knowledge of SQL will be helpful (this is not a SQL 101 session) but we will stick to basic SELECT statements spiced up with an occasional JOIN or two to prove what you can do instead of focusing on the intricate aspects of SQL syntax.

  • Pause

    -

  • FileMaker API and Oauth

    -

The FileMaker Data API works with OAuth, but that can be difficult to set up. We will walk through all steps involved, refer to some general OAuth concepts, and look at an example PHP Client Application connecting to a FileMaker database using the Data API.

It will be a rather technical session, and although helpful, no prior knowledge of OAuth or PHP is required.

  • FileMaker & AI

    -

Discover how easy it is now to integrate FileMaker with Artificial Intelligence using the new features of FileMaker 16. We use an AI for image recognition with a FileMaker custom app for a commercial casting bureau. Learn how in this stunning example a robot completely takes over the data entry and allows to explore the images in a way that was not possible before.

End the session with an open discussion: how will we be building FileMaker apps in the near future with robots taking over more and more parts of the data entry?

  • Graphical visualisation of time slots

    -

We want to share our experience with the graphical visualization of time slots.

During the years there has been many ways to show this in FileMaker. A lot of various ways to draw months and weeks as repeated fields with various results. Solutions like these has created severely static systems.
Today - with a goal to run everything contained in the FileMaker client - we can visualize timeslots as axes or calendar events in a much smoother way with the help of PHP, Javascript and the web viewer. There are products on the market that connects directly to your FileMaker database and present the information to the screen. Two products on the market caught our attention: Dayback Calendar from SeedCode and SoSimple Calendar from Paradise partner.

  • Benefits of creating a API in your database

    -

API is the new thing to communicate with the world and also letting the world reach your solution. What are the ways to handle a API in your solution and how to we suggest you set it up to get the most out of it.

Real world cases that had been proven stabil and reliable for the FileMaker World.

  • Pure Cloud: FileMaker WebDirect as the primary deployment model

    -

The FileMaker Platform is transforming and changing, and WebDirect is now ready for prime time. I am not afraid to tell you: Get on the wagon and harvest the advantages as early as possible. Think strategically and be prepared. It might be relevant for existing customers and for existing solutions but it will be crucial for presenting your FileMaker solutions to new customer segments. We all know the saying, \"Develop for mobile first.\" May we suggest “Develop for WebDirect” first? We will discuss WebDirect and discuss solutions for deploying new FileMaker solutions for new customers via this unobtrusive technology. We will also cover existing issues and how to work around them. What about the schisma to develop solutions for in-house use or for external or even \"unknown\" users with WebDirect?
